Gift Ideas for Infants

Buying a gift for someone who can’t talk should be easy, right? The trouble with gifts for infants is that there are so many options, and it can be hard to choose.

We asked our staff what they like to give as gifts for new babies. Here are their top choices:

Fill up a basket.

Buy a pretty organizer, box, or basket, and fill it with things the new parents will need a lot of:  bibs (one of our staffers swears by the Bumkins brand), oversized burp cloths, and baby washcloths or diapers, wipes, and diaper rash ointment.  It may not be an exciting gift, but the new parents will be hugely grateful.

A book is a gift for a lifetime.

Reading to baby can foster a lifelong love of learning, so you can never go wrong with a gift of books. The best books for reading aloud have short sentences and rhymes. Eric Carle, Sandra Boynton, and Dr. Seuss are our picks.

Toys and Teethers

Toys and teethers are perennial favorites, but we don’t know a single parent who wishes her kids had more stuffed animals. Look for toys like those below, with interactive components that allow baby to explore this big new world.
