Electronics more often than not are expensive buys and with rapidly growing technology need to be updated every few years.
Have you been using the same mobile phone or computer for the last 5 years or more? I didn’t think so.
A lot of us like to stay abreast with latest technology and replace our electronic equipment to enjoy the latest features and conveniences on offer.
Here are some cool tips to save on your electronic purchases this summer:
1. Buy Online
Buying online is a great way to save on electronics since you can compare prices and features easily, and get good deals as well. However, one of the biggest fears with buying online is how the seller would ship the product and whether it would get damaged in transit. In reality, very few customers face shipping complaints even with large purchases.
A lot of good online sellers offer free insurance coverage against theft and damage during transit. Amazon.com and bestbuy.com are some of the places online where you get a wide range of products at considerable discounts. Often they have offers that give free shipping for a purchase value over a certain dollar amount.
2. Choose the Add-Ons with Care
Don’t buy a 16GB memory card for your latest phone if it’s equipped with sufficient internal memory. You might be happy with a 2 or a 4 GB card if you don’t store too many music files or download a lot of games.
Sometimes add-ons can be almost as expensive as the electronic item itself. Similarly if you only intend to keep your new laptop for one to two years, spending on extended warranty might not be a worthwhile option.
Instead, look at making your purchase with a credit card company like American Express which extends warranty on some products at no extra cost on certain card products.
3. Buy on Sale
There are plenty of sales particularly around the festive season to take advantage of. Make your purchase around Black Friday or a Christmas sale and you can save hundreds of dollars on some of the latest electronic products.
4. Research Before You Buy
Before you purchase a product, ask yourself do you really need the latest technology or you could do with an older version. We seldom buy the latest technology unless we really need the new features on offer. Quite often an older model will give you almost the same capabilities and functions at a much more affordable price.
Another benefit of getting a model that’s been in the market for a while is that you can research its pros and cons, read user reviews, and be aware of any known issues with the product.
5. Use Online Coupons
Whether the coupon is for free shipping, a percentage off, or faster shipping, use it to save even more on your online purchases. You can sign up with coupon sites such as RetailMeNot, to get great deals directly in your email if you do not like to search extensively on coupon websites.
