I have many laundry products that I love, which make my laundry job more manageable. However, there are a few laundry items that I just won’t do without. Aside from the obvious items like a washing machine and laundry detergent, here are 3 laundry products that I consider to be must-haves.
A Sturdy Laundry Basket
Unfortunately, I’ve used my share of flimsy laundry baskets. They collapse when you have them against your hip and the handles bend when you’ve loaded them to the brim with clothes. Once the handles bend, they become impossible to carry. I have found that when it comes to laundry baskets, you do get what you pay for.
While I don’t buy the most expensive laundry baskets on the market, I do buy baskets with several criteria: they must be sturdy overall, they must have reinforced handles and they must be in a rectangle shape.
A laundry basket is especially important if you have to haul your clothes to a Laundromat or apartment laundry facility. A sturdy basket can make an unbearable task seem more manageable.
A Pair of Scissors for the Laundry Room
I routinely keep a pair of scissors in the baskets on top of my washing machine. I use them to cut off tags from a new pair of pants or trim a string from an unraveling hem. I’m more apt to go ahead and wash those pants if I go ahead and trim off the tags. If I don’t, they might sit on top of my washer for a week or more, waiting on me to track down the scissors!
Having items – like scissors – that are solely dedicated to my laundry room, keep me organized and efficient.
Portable Drying Rack
Drying Racks come in all shapes and sizes. You can buy racks that fit over your bathtub, mountable racks that pull out from the wall, and stand-alone racks that fold up and down for storage.
All of us have certain clothes that need to be line dried and some people don’t have routine access to a dryer. A drying rack can solve both of these problems, while saving energy and preserving the life of your clothes.
Sturdy, durable drying racks don’t have to be expensive. They can be found for $30 or less at home improvement stores.
What laundry items do you consider to be essential?

I use XL tote bags from LL Bean as my baskets. I find them easier to carry, the right size for two stacks of adult clothes and useful on non laundry day too.
Awesome tip, Leigh! That’s a great idea! That’s a great example of working smarter, not harder
